It was a real pleasure to have Pauline Grogan speak at our meeting last Monday. Pauline is a remarkable individual who has had a significant impact on many people. She shared with us details of her latest project ‘My Music Ignites My Soul’
Pauline shared with us her dream of young people making playlists for older folk who are not able to create their own. She has witnessed the power of music to revive and revitalise. Bed-ridden patients have come alive when listening to music from their early days.
Pauline has partnered with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Aotearoa NZ / Hillary Award to create My Music Ignites My Soul – Ōku Pūoro, Hihiko Tōku Wairua programme to bring young and old people together where the young person will develop a music playlist for older people.
Young people undertaking The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Aotearoa NZ / Hillary Award will meet and work alongside seniors, family members and Diversional Therapists to individualise music for them. Students will canvas:
– favourite songs, artists of genres
– their musical interests
– any musical ability or instruments
– key life events
The programme is being piloted through Summerset at Monterey Park, Hobsonville and will be released nationwide in October 2021.
As a club we appreciate the passion Pauline has for this project and the impact it will have on many, we were proud to have Past Governor Peter Garnett present Pauline with a Sapphire Paul Harris Fellow.
