Rotarians volunteer their time and expertise to run this Rotary project, which includes all Rotary International Zone 8 Districts. This humanitarian project has provided life-giving and/or dignity-restoring surgery to over 500 children from more than 20 countries who were not able to access medical treatment in their own countries. It is assisted by many eminent Australian and New Zealand surgeons who generously donate their time to treating patients.
Our Rotary Club is proud to have supported baby John, who travelled to Auckland on 7 February 2024 from Vanuatu and his mother, Pascal, for treatment for a rare heart condition. His treatment involved a Cardiac Computerised Tomography (CT) scan and scheduled 6-hour surgery on 15 March.
John celebrated his first birthday on 9 March at Ronald McDonald House. Our Club members – Warren, Monique, Alastair, and Peter – hosted a party with cake, cupcakes, and gifts, including a sensory book and toy.
Once John was well enough to leave the hospital, a trip to the Zoo was made.
Pascal and John have now returned home with a bag full of gifts for her family from a shopping trip she did with President Fay. She is truly thankful for generous donations from club members for her shopping trip, as well as the gifts of a suitcase and backpacks and a wonderful Mountain Buggy. The buggy will mean she can have John safely watching her while she does the cooking, washing and fetching the wood. John isn’t yet crawling but has learnt to slide backwards and shuffle forward on his bottom. So much more energy, and he now has 2 two more teeth.
